Community leaders christen new Holiday Inn Express

Alongside beautification on East Main Street in Galesburg, a nearly brand new hotel welcomes citizens to the city.

Last night, community leaders met to officially welcome the Holiday Inn Express which opened in late December of last year.

Among those in attendance included State Rep. Don Moffitt, various aldermen and members of city administration as well as Mayor John Pritchard who praised the project.

“This is a great day for Galesburg,” Pritchard said. “It’s a wonderful facility. They took efforts to support some of our other local businesses as they developed it and we really appreciate that.”

Pritchard joked that the business opening has a few upsides for the city.

“This is good for the city not just from the standpoint of the employment that it generates but you know I’ve learned now that these hotels generate a lot of tax revenue and we really appreciate that,” Pritchard laughed.

The building is of the newest “formula blue” designs, featuring a business center, breakfast area and “lifestyle lounge.” It includes 81 contemporary guest rooms.

With the new hotel, the old location originally built as a Holiday Inn was converted to a Baymont Inn and Suites. The location sits directly east across the road.
