St. Patrick’s Day to parade through Knoxville tomorrow

Whether you’re kissing someone for being Irish or kissing winter goodbye, Knoxville’s St. Patrick’s Parade will step off tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Parade organizer Karen Benjamin tells WGIL you can expect to see various school clubs, groups and local political candidates but that pre-registering is not necessary.

Entrants only need show at the high school at 12:45 p.m.

“You know, I’m not all sure who is coming, it’s just come as you are and if you want to get into the parade it’s fine,” Benjamin says. “It’s always kind of fun and is just a fun thing to do to say winter is over.”

After the parade the Knoxville Fire Station will offer an Irish tinted meal of corned beef and cabbage for $8.

This is the 3rd year for the Knoxville Parade and the same amount of years that the parade has been led by St. Patrick’s leprechaun.

Benjamin says the parade is a great way to show all the things that are going on in Knoxville.

She says the parade has grown since two years ago but the kind of year it is helps turn out.

“We’ve had more people interested in it,” Benjamin adds. “Election years are good years for a parade.”

Meanwhile, The 31st year of the Grand Parade in Quad Cities celebrating St. Patrick’s Day starts today at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of 23rd St. and 4th Ave.

The event draws thousands each year.

The parade is just one of a gaggle of events in the QCA this weekend celebrating the holiday including a mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Rock Island preceding the parade.
