Your Weekend: Heartseekers Women’s Weekend Retreat today and tomorrow

In 2001, Christian musician, author and performer Tammy Trent had her faith shaken when she lost her husband.

The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native was on a mission trip in Jamaica when her husband disappeared while scuba diving.

“Things shifted and changed for me in that moment,” she says, “as the search began for him and continued in the night into the next morning, which would turn into being the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.”

Trent will be at the Galesburg Bethel Baptist Church today and tomorrow for the annual Heartseekers Women’s Weekend Retreat to tell her story.

She tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL she believes her story, music and message can have a real impact.

“If it wasn’t real to me, if I didn’t think it was relevant or touching or changing a life, including my own, then I think I would just chose to do something else,” Trent says.

Registration for the two-day retreat is $65, or $35 for Friday and $40 for Saturday. Girls age 13 to 18 can attend for a flat $20 rate paid with adult registration.
