WIBA Home Show, United Way Second Chance Prom highlight weekend

People looking for something to do this weekend have a couple options.

The 39th annual Western Illinois Builders Association Home Show is bringing more than 30 booths to the Sandburg Mall to showcase everything from stone engravings to plumbing services available in the area.

The event is set from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Terry Hartley has coordinated the Home Show for 30 years. He says it’s among the mall’s biggest annual events.

“Spring is when people are starting to think about remodeling and landscaping and fixing up this,” Hartley says. “They are the do-it-yourselfers.”

WIBA will be selling $2 tickets at the event to raffle off a hand-built playhouse. Money raised will go to the Boy & Girls Club of Knox County.

Saturday night, the United Way Second Chance Prom is running from 8 to 11:55 p.m. at Visions Venue.

Admission is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

United Way Executive Director Ann Tucker-Lockhart tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL the proceeds go to the local United Way branch.

“We really need this fundraiser to be successful because campaign did not reach what we hoped it had,” Tucker-Lockhart says. “We did fall short, so, throughout this year we really need to be successful.”

Last year, the non-profit organization missed their $350,000 goal by $44,000.
