74th GOP candidates debate tonight at Carl Sandburg College

The three Republican candidates running for longtime State Rep. Don Moffitt’s seat will meet at Carl Sandburg College tonight to debate.

Woodhull farmer Mike DeSutter, Rio farmer Wayne Saline and Alpha veteran Dan Swanson are running for the 74th district GOP nomination. 

The debate is just ahead of the March 15th primary. The three candidates will field questions and give opening and closing statements to constituents from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Lone Democratic candidate Bill Butts is not expected to be in attendance.

Tonight’s debate is being hosted by the Galesburg Register-Mail and will be moderated by reporters Marty Hobe, Ben Zigterman and Sandburg student Seairra Sheppard. A straw poll will be conducted as well.

Candidate events are expected to continue as early as Monday morning when all four will meet for a “Meet and Greet” at the Knox County Farm Bureau.That event kicks of at 8 a.m.
