Fall celebration to return after Scarecrow Fest’s two year absence

The last time Galesburg celebrated the Scarecrow Festival was in 2013, and although the Galesburg Business Association hasn’t committed to its return, the organization’s new president is planning a fall celebration.

GBA President Amye Peterson tells WGIL two years off was enough for the Scenic Drive event.

“Time, honestly, did slip by,” she says. “And so, we really want to focus on either bringing the Scarecrow Festival back as the Scarecrow Festival, or a fall fest of some sort. So I would look for something like that come this fall that we’re working on.”

The only thing Peterson was ready to commit to was that a festival is expected this autumn. Everything else, including the celebration’s location, is still up in the air.

“We talked about working with Hawthorne Center Craft Mall because now they are an official stop on the Scenic Drive where before, for the last few years, Scarecrow Festival was the only stop in Galesburg,” she says.

The Scarecrow Festival was canceled largely due to dwindling participation.
