Community leaders line up to endorse local candidates

With candidates jockeying for position ahead of the Mar. 15 primary election, and early voting beginning in less than a week, endorsements are coming in for candidates in several key local races.In the race for the 74th district seat in the Illinois General Assembly, the position held by Don Moffitt since 1993, three Republicans and one Democrat are running.

Among the Republicans, Wayne Saline of Rio has the support of Ward 1 Alderman of the Galesburg City Council, Angela Bastian and former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture John Block.

Mike DeSutter of Woodhull is touting the support of the Illinois Liberty PAC and Dan Swanson of Alpha has been endorsed by State Police Commander Bob Elliot, A.B.A.T.E. A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education and former Illinois Senate Candidate, Bill Albrecht.

“Bill Albrecht is a two time Silver Star recipient for his courage in the face of battle in Vietnam,” Swanson says. “Bill’s been a long time friend and hero of mine”

Bill Butts being the only Democrat in the race has a single endorsement from Knox County Board candidate Kyle Rohweder. 

In the Knox County State Attorney’s race two Democrats are facing off.

Jeremy Karlin has support from former Regional Superintendent of Schools Bonnie Harris, Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas and Knox County Treasurer Robin Davis among others.

As of yesterday John Pepmeyer hasn’t formally announced any endorsements.
