Galesburg union rep. criticizes Rauner for lack of budget

Governor Bruce Rauner is solely to blame for the never ending state budget impasse, at least that’s what Galesburg Firefighters Association President Jeff Maher  says.

Union leaders and representatives from across the state met yesterday in Springfield, criticizing Governor Bruce Rauner for Illinois’ on going budget stalemate.

Galesburg Firefighters Association President Jeff Maher joined with union members and leaders from the Illinois AFL-CIO at a press conference to voice their disapproval .

Maher exclaimed the grief of fellow firefighters, demanding Rauner make changes.

“Instead of attempting to strip a firefighters right to bargain over safe staffing levels to adequately protect our communities, can you focus on the safety and welfare of the public that you’re sworn to protect?” Maher exclaimed.

The seven-year Galesburg firefighter continued by criticizing the Governor for what he says is an “unhealthy fixation with stripping first responders of their rights.”

The slam on the Governor comes a day ahead of Rauner’s State of the State address this afternoon as Illinois will soon enter month number seven without a fiscal plan in place.
