Fire crews battle Knoxville blaze in frigid temps

Firefighters have extinguished a machine shed fire in rural Knoxville that started this morning. Crews remain on the scene battling hotspots.

Knoxville Fire Chief Jeff Vandemark says multiple departments were dispatched at about 8:30 a.m. to 1358 Barefoot Road where the large machine shed was fully engulfed. No injuries were reported, however, the structure is a complete loss.

No cause has been determined at this time. The shed housed a woodshop and several tractors, including an antique model.

Vandemark says the frigid weather and winds made for a challenging fire to battle as water began to freeze inside a truck.

Propane tanks and a heater were observed in the area of the blaze. Vandenmark says an explosion was heard while crews battled the fire as well.

Williamsfield, Maquon, Dahinda and Appleton fire departments assisted Knoxville Fire. Illinois State Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department were also on the scene.
