Galesburg man charged in Peoria meth bust

A Galesburg man is on the hook for Class X methamphetamine charges worth up to 60 years in prison following a drug bust in Peoria County.

The Peoria County Courthouse says 51-year-old Kent E. Morgan faces charges of meth trafficking, possession of meth with intent to deliver and simple possession of meth.

Morgan is held at the Peoria County jail on $500,000 bond awaiting a Feb. 4 preliminary hearing.

The Peoria Multi-County Narcotics Enforcement Group says Morgan was taken into custody following an encounter with the suspect at the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.

P-MEG Director Dave Briggs says police received information that Morgan was transporting meth last Thursday from a Las Vegas airport to Illinois.

Morgan had attempted to throw a quantity of the drug away in a public area at the Peoria airport during what Briggs called a “casual encounter” with officers.

Agents seized 94 grams of “ice,” a form of meth, as a result of the investigation.

As of this Monday morning, Morgan did not have an attorney.
