Iron Spike craft beer cans coming to stores in fall

Iron Spike is being put on the shelf. Brew Master Blake Benedict and owner and chef Ryan Cardwell have been working for the past year on canning a set of their beers set to hit shelves this fall.

Iron Spike is working with G&M Distributors to be sold in stores initially in communities like Galesburg, Galena, Dixon and Macomb with eyes on expansion.

Benedict tells WGIL getting Iron Spike craft beer on the shelves has been something that’s a long time coming.

“We’ve got our Light Rail Cream Ale and Flatback IPA coming out in cans right now with more cans to follow in the near future,” Benedict says.

He says they want to get their feet wet first, but by the end of the year they expect to a total of four beers available in stores.

“We’ve got a couple can designs for the Handcar Hefe’ and the Midnight Express right now,” Benedict says. “Whether those are the exact two that come out or not, we haven’t fully decided. By the end of the year, we want to be throughout central Illinois and all the way to the Indiana border all the way to the Iowa border, for sure.”

The beers are being canned in a building behind the Iron Spike bar and restaurant. They bought two 30-barrel fermenters, which has more than doubled their brewing capacity.

Benedict says to look for Iron Spike cans on store shelves later in the year for around $9.99 a six pack.
